Rabat – US President Donald Trump has extended his best wishes to Americans celebrating Eid Al Fitr today as they mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“The First Lady and I send our best wishes to every American celebrating Eid al-Fitr,” Trump said in a brief statement published in the White House.
Stressing the importance of the religious festival for Muslim communities, he said Eid Al Fitr marks an important religious event that brings together families, friends, and communities.
“It also serves as a reminder of the foundational American principle of religious liberty, which my Administration is fighting for every day,” Trump said.
He concluded his remarks by offering his and the first lady’s warmest greetings for a blessed Eid al-Fitr to all who celebrate.
The US is among other countries celebrating Eid Al Fitr on Friday.
A Pew Research Center survey in 2018 estimated that there were about 3.45 million Muslims of all ages in the U.S. in 2017.
The number accounted for 1.1% of the population.
Recently, the center confirmed the same data, stating Muslims make up only about 1% of the adult population in the country.
The 2023-2024 survey also identified Muslims to be more highly educated than Christians or unaffiliated Americans.
“Some 44% of Muslim adults are college graduates, including 26% who have a master’s, doctorate, or other postgraduate degree.”
In contrast, the survey finds that 14% of Christians and 16% of religiously unaffiliated adults have advanced degrees.
“Muslims also are much more likely than Americans of other religious backgrounds to be current students,” the report said.
It added that three in ten Muslim adults don’t have a college degree but are currently students, compared with 6% of Christians and 10% of religiously unaffiliated adults.
