Tafedna is a small fishing village on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, located around 1 hour and 30 minutes south of Essaouira. Most travellers never stop here, but this stretch of coastline feels completely different from Morocco’s more developed beach towns. There are no large resorts, beach clubs or busy promenades — just a small one street fishermen’s village, dunes and long empty beaches.
Tafedna itself is a very small fishing village with only a few hundred residents, where daily life still mostly revolves around fishing and the Atlantic Ocean. There are only a handful of simple local seafood restaurants where the menu usually depends on what fishermen catch that day, a few tiny hanout shops selling basic products, and several local surf spots known for strong Atlantic waves.
Tourism in Tafdena remains very limited — apart from a few small guest houses and Airbnb stays, Tafedna still feels largely untouched by mass tourism.
In Tafedna, I stayed at Haven Morocco, a small guest house hidden between the hills and the Atlantic coast. Interestingly, I actually have been to this place like seven years ago, but back then, it had different name, concept and owners.

Later that place completely disappeared and for years I wondered what had happened to it. The current owner, Salvador, brought the property back to life with a new concept while still keeping the place’s quiet spirit.
Haven guesthouse is built in two separate parts. The first is the main house higher up on the hill, while the second area consists of smaller lodge-style cabins surrounded by greenery and connected by sandy walking paths. What I liked most about this place was the atmosphere.
From the cabins you can walk directly into nature — through green valleys and wild coastal landscapes leading towards the beach and sand dunes. During my stay there were barely any people around. I would often see wild camels and donkeys moving freely through the dunes near the ocean.
The village itself is located a bit further away, so staying here feels very isolated and peaceful. It is the kind of place where days naturally slow down. You wake up with ocean sounds, walk through empty landscapes and spend most of the day outside without really checking the time.
One important thing to know before staying here: Tafedna is not really a destination for constant online connection or fast-paced travel. Internet in the village barely works in many places.
Haven still has Wi-Fi, but this is more the kind of place where people disconnect from phones and spend time outside instead.
The property itself has around 11 individually designed rooms and cabins, small outdoor swimming pools and direct access towards the surrounding walking areas and coastline.
What makes the experience memorable is really the location — the silence, empty Atlantic beaches, dunes and feeling of being far away from everything else.
If you are looking for nightlife, shopping or organised tourism, Tafedna will probably feel too quiet. But if you want a slower and much less developed side of Morocco’s Atlantic coast, this is one of the most peaceful places I’ve stayed in Morocco.
Also, lets keep Tafedna village as our small secret 🤫. I don’t want it become overcrowded like Taghazout or nearby villages. Also, be respectful, even if you are a surfer, dress modestly in the village (so sad to see tourists in Taghazout walking in the village or even local restaurants with bikinis.
