Rabat – Spain and Morocco have celebrated the importance of cooperation, pledging to further boost ties and collaboration at all levels.

The two countries renewed this commitment at the Spain-Morocco Business Meeting that took place in Madrid on Wednesday.

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch  said the two countries have a “unique window of opportunity to transform partnership into a true accelerator of Africa-Europe ties, in which Spain and Morocco would act as a natural pivot.”

He recalled Spain’s assets in renewable energy, describing the country as a major industrial platform.

Akhannouch also stressed Morocco’s position as both an African hub and an export gateway to Europe.

“Morocco has significantly intensified its engagement with the continent over the past 20 years,”  he said, citing King Mohammed VI’s leadership that established Morocco as the leading African investor in Africa.

“Morocco can therefore serve as a bridge for Spanish companies in friendly countries with which it maintains deep political,  diplomatic, and commercial ties, ”Akhannouch explained.

He concluded that both countries can build integrated energy corridors as well as join co-investment initiatives in West Africa, where Spanish and Moroccan companies can benefit from their networks as well as financing and expertise.

Antoine Garamendi, president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations, echoed Akhannouch’s remarks, stressing the complementary economies Spain and Morocco share.

For him, the “two countries must join efforts to become a shared strategic gateway to Africa and Latin America.”

Garamendi also emphasized the strength of ties between the two countries, citing close commercial and economic cooperation as well as their efforts to jointly address global challenges and boost growth.

The business meeting comes on the eve of the 13th High-Level meeting that will take place today. Akhannouch will co-chair the meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez.

The high-level meeting seeks to boost economic cooperation, allowing Spanish companies to explore trade and investment opportunities offered by Morocco.
