Agadir – Authorities in Sidi Kacem, in collaboration with the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), executed a crucial humanitarian aid initiative yesterday aimed at assisting residents in the rural commune of El Houafate, which has been severely impacted by recent adverse weather conditions.

Recent heavy rainfall has led to significant increases in water levels along the Sebou River, threatening numerous communities in Sidi Kacem.

Authorities have been on high alert, with emergency response teams conducting evacuations and providing assistance to those at risk. With conditions still unstable, the provincial government has prioritized the safety and well-being of affected communities.

The operation involved the distribution of 32 tons of barley and 400 food kits to help mitigate the effects of rising water levels that have isolated many areas within the province. These packages contain essential food items given to families to help them meet basic nutrition needs.

This initiative is particularly essential for preserving livestock which gives families both immediate food supply and long-term economic security in such rural areas.

    ORMVAG safety measures

Under FAR supervision, and in coordination with the Regional Office for Agricultural Development of Gharb (ORMVAG), the operation prioritizes both agricultural support and humanitarian relief.

This initiative is part of an emergency response system that has been mobilized to support communities affected by the floods, part of a broader strategy to combat the repercussions of recent severe weather in the Gharb region.

In light of the rising water levels, ORMVAG is actively working with local authorities to facilitate the evacuation of residents and their livestock to safer areas. Support centers have been established to serve as logistical hubs, ensuring the safety of individuals from the most impacted villages.

Moreover, the office has launched a livestock feed distribution effort. This initiative is crucial for farmers whose access to markets and pastures has been disrupted by rising waters.

Authorities assert that the ongoing efforts aim to ensure that all affected areas receive the necessary assistance during this challenging time.
