Rodri Opens Door to Future Real Madrid Move

Rabat – Manchester City midfielder Rodri has said he would like to return to Spanish football in the future and admitted he would not refuse the chance to join Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old Spain international spoke from the national team camp, reflecting on his career and plans. Rodri began his professional journey in Spain with Villarreal before moving to Atletico Madrid, and he has often spoken about a possible return to La Liga.

“I would like to go back to Spain, yes,” he said. “It’s something I think about. And when a club like Real Madrid comes, you cannot ignore that.”

He also addressed the idea of moving from Atletico to Real Madrid, an extremely sensitive matter for many supporters. Rodri said it would not be a problem for him, pointing out that other players have made similar moves in the past, even if not always directly.

A key figure at Manchester City

Rodri joined Manchester City in 2019 and quickly became one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s system. He has played a central role in the club’s recent success, including four Premier League titles and the Champions League triumph in 2023.

His ability to control the tempo, hold possession under pressure, and organize play from deep has made him a constant presence in the team. Even after dealing with injuries over the past year, he has remained a key part of the squad.

In September 2024, Rodri won the Ballon d’Or. Later that season, he suffered a serious knee injury that sidelined him for several months.

Upon his return, he quickly reestablished himself as a key figure in midfield, continuing to contribute regularly and reinforcing his importance to the team.

Rodri confirmed that his current contract with Manchester City runs until 2027. He said discussions about his future will come in time.

“There is still time, but we will have to talk at some point,” he explained.

His comments come at a moment when City could face changes in midfield. Bernardo Silva is expected to leave at the end of the season, and any potential departure of Rodri would create a major gap in the team.
