Rabat – Local authorities in Sidi Kacem Province have evacuated families from flood-prone areas as water levels rise in the Sebou River.

The interventions were carried out as part of local vigilance committees, focusing on several villages in the communes of El Hawafat, Sidi Kamel, and Erremilat. Authorities said they ensured that affected residents were moved to safe locations and equipped shelters.

Authorities evacuated 69 people from the village of Dakhlan in El Hawafat. Among them, 27 received accommodation at “Dar Al-Taliba” social care center, while the rest were hosted by relatives in safer areas away from the river.

Idris Moumen, director of the social care center, told MAP that the institution fully participated in these preventive measures to reduce the impact of Sebou River floods.

He added that, in coordination with local authorities and the National Cooperation, all logistical needs, including shelter, bedding, and food, were provided.

Similarly, in Sidi Kamel, 40 people were evacuated and hosted by family members, while in Erremilat, 10 people were moved as a precautionary measure.

Authorities added they also prioritized protecting livestock, a key source of income for residents, relocating 1,180 sheep and 200 cows to safe areas.

Emergency teams and local authorities remain on high alert to closely monitor the river’s water levels to ensure the safety of residents and respond quickly if needed.
