ONCF Invests MAD 37.3 Million to Secure Pipeline Ahead of Kenitra–Marrakech High-Speed Rail

Mohammedia – Morocco’s national rail operator, ONCF, has launched a new infrastructure project valued at MAD 37.3 million as part of preparations for the future high-speed rail line linking Kenitra to Marrakech, a flagship extension of the country’s LGV network.

The investment targets a highly technical yet essential operation involving the diversion and reinforcement of a 14-inch fuel pipeline, as well as the securing of adjacent fuel reserves that currently intersect with the planned route of the high-speed line.

These installations are historically linked to SAMIR, whose infrastructure remains embedded in several strategic corridors despite the refinery’s shutdown.

According to project details, the works will ensure full compatibility between existing energy infrastructure and the future rail platform, while meeting safety, durability, and regulatory requirements.

The contract covers engineering studies, technical supervision, supply of materials and equipment, and the execution of civil works needed to adapt the pipeline to the new railway layout.

The project is scheduled to span approximately 10 months, with construction phased to minimize disruption.

Initial works will focus on two sensitive crossing points near road RR313, where pipeline sections measuring around 848 meters and 574 meters will be diverted.

Subsequent stages will complete the remaining rerouting and reinforce protection systems to safeguard both the pipeline and the rail infrastructure over the long term.

This intervention forms part of a broader series of adjustments required before the LGV Kenitra–Marrakech enters full construction.

While less visible than track laying or station development, such operations are considered critical to avoiding future technical conflicts and ensuring the reliability of strategic networks that coexist along the corridor.
