Morocco Welcomes 4.3 Million Tourists in First Quarter of 2026

Rabat – Morocco welcomed 4.3 million tourists during the first quarter of 2026, a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy.

The ministry said that March alone saw around 1.6 million visitors, a sharp 18% rise compared to March 2025. Officials described the month as particularly strong, highlighting what they called an “exceptional dynamic” in the country’s tourism sector.

This growth comes as part of Morocco’s 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, which focuses on expanding air connectivity, attracting tourists from more diverse markets, and improving accommodation and entertainment offerings across the country’s regions, added the ministry.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor welcomed the results, saying they confirm that Morocco is “moving in the right direction.” She pointed to March 2026 as a strong signal of the sector’s momentum and stressed that efforts will continue to maintain this growth throughout the year.

“Moroccan tourism is on track. March 2026 sends a strong signal, and we’re focused on keeping this momentum going throughout the year,” she said.

Morocco’s tourism sector has been on a steady rise since the global slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. After a difficult period in 2020 and 2021, the country has seen a strong recovery, supported by government strategy and renewed international travel demand.

Morocco exceeded tourism expectations in 2025 with 19.8 million tourist arrivals, reaching visitor numbers that were initially projected for later years. The number represents a 14% increase compared to 2024.

This early success has strengthened confidence in the country’s long-term tourism strategy and positioned Morocco as one of the fastest-recovering destinations in the region.

Morocco is expected to maintain this upward trend with continued investments and strong international interest.
