Rabat – Abdelhadi Belkhayat, one of Morocco’s most famous singers, died on Friday at 85 years old at the Military hospital in Rabat. Belkhayat was a legendary figure in Moroccan music and a beloved artist for many generations of listeners.

Belkhayat was born in 1940 in Fez. He became known for his powerful voice and his unique style that blended traditional Moroccan music with Arab and Andalusian influences.

Over many years, he recorded many songs that became very popular across Morocco and the Arab world. Some of his best‑known hits include “Ya Bent Nass,” “Qitar Al Hayat,” and “Ya Dak L’Insane.” His music has also been used in films and remains part of Morocco’s cultural heritage.

He moved from Fez to Casablanca early in his career to follow his dream of music. Belkhayat joined the music scene in the 1960s and became part of a generation of great Moroccan singers. He also studied music in Cairo, Egypt, and worked with many important lyricists and composers.

Later in life, Belkhayat retired from regular singing and focused on spiritual music. He was respected not just for his voice but also for his long contribution to Moroccan culture and music.

Fans, artists, and cultural figures in Morocco and beyond are mourning his loss.
