Rabat–King Mohammed VI will perform the Eid Al Fitr prayer on Friday at the Ahl Fès Mosque in the Mechouar district of Rabat, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery.

The announcement confirms that the King, in his capacity as Amir Al-Mouminine, will lead the prayer marking the end of Ramadan, in a ceremony that holds strong religious and national significance.

In its statement, the ministry said: “The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announces that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, may God assist Him, will perform, on Friday, 1 Shawwal 1447 AH, corresponding to March 20, 2026, the blessed Eid al-Fitr prayer at the ‘Ahl Fès’ Mosque at the Mechouar in Rabat.”

The King also sent messages of congratulations and best wishes to fellow heads of state, monarchs, presidents, and emirs across the Islamic world. In these messages, the monarch expressed his warm greetings and wished them continued health, peace, and prosperity.

Morocco will officially celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Friday, March 20, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced Thursday evening after confirming the sighting of the crescent moon.

The ministry stated that the observation marks the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, signaling the end of Ramadan after 29 days of fasting this year.

The official announcement contrasts with earlier astronomical predictions by Moroccan astronomer Ibrahim Akhyam, who had anticipated Eid would fall on March 21.
