Maamma Named Watford’s Young Player of the Season

Watford’s rising Moroccan star Othmane Maama has been crowned the club’s Young Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign, capping off a breakthrough year in English football.

The announcement was made today after a season in which the 20-year-old forward established himself as one of the most promising talents in the EFL Championship.

Maama’s impact has been felt throughout the season, with the young Atlas Lion delivering consistent performances in the Championship. He played in 25 matches, scored 4 goals and provided one assist.

Beyond stats and numbers, his dynamism in attack and tactical discipline earned praise from both the coaching staff and the fans, helping him stand out in Watford.

    This season’s challenges

His campaign was not without setbacks, though. Maama missed a significant portion of the season with injury absences and time away with Morocco’s U20 national team in 2025.

Despite these interruptions, he maintained a strong level of performance whenever called upon, which makes this even more impressive.

Maama’s rise was fast. Born in 2005, the forward joined Watford in 2025 after developing in France and quickly adapted to English football.

On the international stage, he has already been successful. He played an important role in Morocco’s triumph at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and winning the tournament’s Golden Ball, as well as being named CAF Young Player of the Year in 2025.

The Young Player of the Season award is another trophy in what is shaping up to be a very promising career. With growing interest from bigger clubs, Maama appears destined for even bigger stages in the near future.
