Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced today that it has received the CAF Appeal Board ruling regarding the AFCON 2025 final.
CAF also announced that its board awarded a 3–0 victory to Morocco and revised the sanctions related to the match incidents.
The ruling included a partial reduction of sanctions against player Ismaël Saibari and adjustments to fines imposed on FRMF over incidents involving ball boys, VAR area interference, and the use of laser pointers.
FRMF said it will issue an official statement on the matter.
The appeal decision comes months after the chaotic AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal on January 18.
During the final, some Senegalese fans vandalized the Rabat stadium and attempted to storm the pitch after the referee awarded a VAR-verified penalty in favor of Morocco.
Videos captured fans destroying stadium seats and using them as weapons against security personnel.
The fans’ unruly behavior followed Senegalese coach Pape Thiaw’s controversial decision to encourage his players to leave the pitch. The situation sparked widespread condemnation from experts and sports officials alike.
Morocco sentenced 18 Senegalese fans to prison terms ranging from three months to one year. Senegal sharply criticized the Moroccan judiciary and called for a royal pardon.
The country also promised to make every effort to secure the fans’ release. Earlier this week, the Court of Appeal in Rabat announced that the appeal trial for the Senegalese fans convicted of hooliganism has been postponed until March 30.
