EasyJet Expands Morocco Network With a New Strasbourg-Marrakech Route

Agadir – EasyJet airline has launched on Sunday a new direct air route linking Strasbourg and Marrakech, a significant step in strengthening travel, tourism, and economic ties between Morocco and France.

The new service connects Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport with Marrakech Menara Airport twice a week, with scheduled flights every Thursday and Sunday. The route introduces a long-awaited direct option between the two cities, which were previously linked mainly through connecting flights or alternative European hubs.

The launch reflects growing demand for more efficient travel between eastern France and one of Morocco’s leading tourist destinations, benefiting a wide range of passengers, including business travelers, tourists, students, and members of the Moroccan diaspora.

The launch of the Strasbourg-Marrakech route comes as EasyJet accelerates its expansion in Morocco, marked by the recent opening of its first African base at Marrakech-Menara Airport.

The airline invested more than €300 million, the base includes three Airbus aircraft and aims to offer up to 4 million seats in its first year, reflecting a strategic partnership signed in 2025 between ONMT and the airline.

Beside this new service, EasyJet is planning to introduce other new connections links to Agadir and Essaouira, bringing its total network in Morocco to 58 routes.

The base is expected to create around 100 direct jobs while supporting broader employment in tourism, as the airline strengthens its position as one of Morocco’s leading international carriers and deepens its role in promoting the country across European markets.

Morocco’s expanding air connectivity aligns with strong tourism performance, as the country recorded MAD 31 billion ($3.1 billion) in travel receipts during the first quarter of 2026, a 24% increase year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Authorities also reported 4.3 million arrivals between January and March, reflecting a 7% rise and indicating higher spending per visitor as the tourism offering continues to mature.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor stated that the growth underscores the sector’s increasing economic impact, with Morocco already surpassing several of its 2026 targets ahead of schedule.

The country also welcomed nearly 20 million tourists in 2025 and generated MAD 138 billion in tourism revenues, exceeding projections set under the national roadmap.

These results support ongoing investments in infrastructure and connectivity, including airport expansions in Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir, as Morocco aims to attract 20 million visitors in 2026 and up to 26 million by 2030.
