Supermarket chain Aldi is set to implement a bigger than expected pay increase for more than 28,000 hourly paid store employees in the UK from 1 September 2025.

Aldi, which is the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, initially announced a wage increase from £12.75 ($17.21) to £13.00 per hour in July 2025

The company has now adjusted this increase further to £13.02 per hour, with a potential rise to £13.95 based on tenure.

In London, hourly rates are increasing from £14.05 to £14.35, with an additional rise to £14.66 based on length of service.

This is the pay rise in 2025 for Aldi store employees.

Aldi provides all employees with paid breaks which are valued at around £1,425 per year for an average store employee.

Aldi chief executive officer of UK and Ireland Giles Hurley stated: “Our colleagues are at the heart of our success, and we’re committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do. Today’s higher than planned pay rise is part of our promise to never be beaten on pay.”

UK consumer group Which? has announced that Aldi has been recognised as the UK’s most affordable supermarket for June 2025, edging out competitor Lidl by a margin of 35p.

The retailer secured the top spot on the value chart with an average cost of £131.52 for a basket of 79 items.

In June 2025, Aldi revealed plans to expand throughout the UK as part of its store opening initiative, which aims to generate 1,000 new jobs within its stores.

“Aldi implements new pay rise for UK hourly paid store employees ” was originally created and published by Retail Insight Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
