Rabat – Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, representing King Mohammed VI at the Global Nuclear Energy Summit, attended a dinner hosted on Tuesday at the Palais de l’Elysée by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The dinner was held in honor of the participating heads of state and government.

Morocco’s delegation during the summit also includes Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, as well as Said Mouline, the general director of the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security.

The General Director for the National Center for Nuclear Energy, Hamid Marah, and Morocco’s Ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, are also part of the delegation.

During the dinner, actors from the French nuclear sector and other lawmakers and investors discussed several themes like the development of civil nuclear energy, project financing, and new uses of low-carbon electricity and heat.

During his participation in the event, Akhannouch outlined Morocco’s approach towards the responsible integration of civil nuclear energy as a natural extension of its national policy in the sector.

He recalled Morocco’s 2009 energy strategy and its three central pillars, including diversification of energy sources, large-scale expansion of renewable energy, and stronger national energy security.

Akhannouch particularly recalled that over 46% of Morocco’s installed electricity capacity in 2025 came from renewable energy.

Morocco’s natural resources and scientific infrastructure support the country’s strategy concerning civil nuclear energy. Morocco’s phosphate deposits contain measurable quantities of natural uranium, a resource that adds a strategic dimension to international debates on the future of nuclear energy.
