Rabat – Morocco and Kenya took a major step in deepening their bilateral relations during the ministerial session of the Morocco-Kenya Joint Cooperation Commission held on Thursday in Nairobi.

The session was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Musalia Mudavadi.

The meeting followed a senior officials’ session held in Rabat from October 1 to 3, 2025, and culminated in the signing of eleven bilateral agreements spanning key sectors including agriculture, justice, health, maritime fisheries and aquaculture, gender equality and women’s empowerment, cultural cooperation, higher education, sports, wildlife conservation, and diplomatic visa exemptions.

The session also saw the adoption of a framework agreement covering university scholarships, internships, and the exchange of expertise.

These new agreements build on five memoranda of understanding signed in May 2025 in areas such as diplomatic training, housing, trade cooperation, youth, and public service capacity building. The co-chairs also approved the official minutes of the Joint Commission, establishing a strategic cooperation framework and a mechanism to ensure coordinated implementation and follow-up of all commitments.

On trade and investment, both parties emphasized the need to address the current trade imbalance, expand market access for agricultural and value-added products, and encourage cross-investments in renewable energy, agro-industry, pharmaceuticals, the automotive sector, and infrastructure. They further agreed to accelerate negotiations for future agreements on ports, double taxation, energy, air services, mining, and tourism.

Connectivity between the two countries was also highlighted, with both sides prioritizing the resumption of direct flights between Kenya and Morocco to boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The session marks a significant milestone in Morocco-Kenya relations, reinforcing collaboration across economic, cultural, and strategic sectors.
