Rabat – Moroccan police, in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested on Thursday evening three individuals on suspicion of trafficking drugs and psychotropic substances in the outskirts of Tangier.

Authorities apprehended the suspects in the act in the rural area of M’dchar Bdrayouine, where police seized a total of 6,976 psychotropic pills of various types, along with doses of cocaine. Police also confiscated cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal activity. In addition, the operation led to the recovery of two bladed weapons, a motorcycle, and a light vehicle reportedly used in the trafficking network.

Further investigation revealed that two of the suspects were already wanted across Morocco for similar offenses, including drug trafficking, armed assaults, and issuing bad checks.

All three individuals have been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the full scope of the network and identify all associated criminal activities.

In a related operation, the National Security elements at Tangier-Med port, in coordination with customs authorities, intercepted an attempted international drug trafficking operation on Thursday evening.

Authorities seized a total of 3.932 tonnes of chira hidden inside modified refrigerated fish containers on a Moroccan-registered transport truck, intended for international distribution.

These operations highlight ongoing efforts by Moroccan authorities to combat drug trafficking both locally and across international borders.
