Hamza Igamane Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery After AFCON Final Injury

Rabat – Lille forward Hamza Igamane confirmed today he had a successful surgery on his right knee following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.

The injury occurred during the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, where Morocco faced Senegal. Igamane came on as a late substitute in extra time but was forced off minutes later after a heavy challenge.

Medical tests confirmed the severity of the injury, and doctors advised immediate surgery. The operation was carried out successfully earlier this week. Igamane shared updates on social media, thanking fans for their support and promising to return stronger.

“It’s a tough moment, but I’ll fight to come back. Thank you for all the messages,” Igamane wrote.

The 23‑year‑old striker will now miss several months of action, ruling him out of the 2026 World Cup preparations and leaving LOSC Lille short in attack.

Reports in France suggest the club is already exploring options to sign a forward during the winter window to cover his absence.

For Morocco, Igamane’s injury is a major blow. He was part of the squad that reached the AFCON final on home soil, though his role was limited due to earlier fitness issues. His brief appearance in the final ended in a nightmare as he left the pitch in pain after a brutal collision with Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

ACL injuries typically require six to nine months of recovery, meaning Igamane will miss the rest of the season and possibly the start of next year’s campaign. His successful surgery is a positive step, but his rehabilitation will be long and demanding.

Lille and Moroccan fans must wait for now – and hope one of their brightest young talents can return to full strength in time to contribute again at both club and international level.
