Rabat – A light earthquake struck areas near Amizmiz, in the Al Haouz province of the Marrakech-Safi region, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to earthquake tracking applications, the quake measured 3.3 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of about 13.9 kilometers, making it relatively shallow. The earthquake was felt by local residents, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.

The epicenter was near Ait Irgit. Many residents took to social media to share that they had felt the quake, with some leaving their homes as a precaution.

According to reports, local authorities confirmed that the tremor caused some fear among residents, especially since the area is still recovering from the destructive 2023 earthquake.

Social media posts expressed concerns about ongoing seismic activity in this active earthquake zone.

Experts have explained that these small, successive tremors are part of the Earth’s natural process of releasing energy after major earthquakes.

Because of the devastating 2023 earthquake, many Moroccans remain anxious whenever even minor tremors occur. The devastating earthquake claimed the lives of around 3,000 people and caused widespread destruction.
