Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka, representing King Mohammed VI, is attending the 7th African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit in Lunda, Angola, which runs November 24 to 25.

The Summit, themed “Promoting peace and prosperity through effective multilateralism,” brings together innovators, organizers, young leaders, and civil society organizations to transform dialogue into solid initiatives for cooperation between both continents.

The event covers two sessions, including one focusing on citizens, migration and mobility. The sessions include discussions regarding border management coordination and combatting human trafficking.

In the context of mobility, the Summit continues to pursue initiatives such as EU-funded mobility partnerships that, since 2022, have facilitated student exchanges, partnerships, and African continents.

The second session on peace, security, and governance discusses common security and defense policies (CSDP), such as the EU’s 12 civilian and military operations launched as part of Africa’s CSDP. The session seeks to strengthen multilateral counter-terrorism and extremism initiatives.

Morocco’s involvement and contributions to the Summit are especially significant as King Mohammed VI was named the AU Champion on Migration at the 30th AU Summit in January 2018.

EU-Morocco ties continue to strengthen beyond migration and sustainability initiatives; the EU maintains its backing and support of Morocco’s sovereignty regarding the Western Sahara.

The seventh Summit marks 25 years of EU-AU partnerships alongside 50 years of independence for Angola and several other African countries.
