Wydad Casablanca Appoints Patrice Carteron as New Head Coach Wydad Casablanca Appoints Patrice Carteron as New Head Coach

Rabat – The Wydad Casablanca boss is moving on after a shocking elimination against Olympique Safi in the quarter finals of the Confederation Cup. According to Elbotola, the club has reached a primary agreement with Patrice Carteron to take over as the new head coach, replacing Mohamed Benhachem.

The decision comes after questionable results throughout the season, despite the major names Wydad welcomed last summer, like Hakim Ziyech and Amrabat. Benhachem didn’t live up to expectations, as the team struggled to stay consistent.

The French coach is not new to Botola. He arrives with strong past experience, including a history with Wydad’s rivals Raja Casablanca, with whom he won the Super Cup in 2019 and finished second after an impressive run that season.

Carteron’s achievements speak for themselves. With TP Mazembe, he won two championships in DR Congo (2013, 2014), followed by the CAF Champions League in 2015. With Zamalek, the path was similar: Egyptian Super Cup in 2020, CAF Super Cup in the same year, then the Egyptian League in 2021.

He then moved to Asia, coaching in Iran with Sepahan, then took a turn to Qatar at Umm-Salal SC.

However, Carteron has been going through a really tough spell lately. With Umm-Salal SC, he lost 10 out of 13 matches, including some heavy defeats – Al‑Sadd to 8‑3 and then 5‑0 to Al‑Shamal. The results left a mark and raised questions about how things went under his management.

With the second leg of the Botola Pro approaching, Carteron will be asked to make a quick impact if the deal goes through.

The French coach will be expected to win Wydad’s delayed matches and maintain the club’s dominance in the league.

The coming days will show whether he can live up to the expectation and mark a place among the greats.
