Rabat – The Moroccan Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs announced today that the month of Sha’ban for the year 1447 of the Hijri calendar will begin on Wednesday, January 21.

According to the ministry, the lunar crescent for Sha’ban was observed today after sunset.

Observers from across Morocco, including units of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) involved in moon sighting, confirmed that the crescent was not visible.

This means the month of Rajab will complete 30 days, marking Wednesday as the start of Sha’ban.

Sha’ban is the month immediately before Ramadan, during which Muslims observe daily fasting from dawn to sunset for 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the lunar crescent.

The month of Sha’ban holds special significance for Muslims as it helps them prepare mentally and physically for the upcoming holy month.

In Morocco, Sha’ban is marked with various traditions, including fasting, giving charity, house cleaning, shopping, and the celebration of a ceremony called Sha’bana, where a variety of foods and pastries are shared.
