Rabat – A high-level delegation from the UK sports security team visited Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex on Wednesday to closely examine the security and crowd-management model Morocco has been deploying during the ongoing AFCON.

The visit comes as Morocco’s national team is preparing for its semi-final game against Nigeria tonight. In line with security, bilateral ties between Morocco and the UK, in preparation for the World Cup 2030, the delegation examined Rabat’s security deployment for the much-expected semifinal clash.

They also explored Morocco’s next-generation sports facilities, the deployment of coordinated teams, electronic communication between units, and the use of high-precision visual surveillance technologies to monitor crowd movement from entry to exit.

In addition, the British delegation visited the African Security Cooperation Center in Sale near Rabat. The center hosts operational coordination between Morocco’s security services and counterparts from African countries taking part in AFCON. It also hosts delegates from Spain, Portugal, Qatar, and Interpol.

The center, which is the first of its kind in the history of African football tournaments, enabled the organization of AFCON games under world-class conditions.

The British delegation’s visit confirms the international plaudits Morocco has received in recent days over its “world-class) facilities and the “excellent” organization observers and participating teams witnessed at the ongoing continental tournament.

Earlier this month, Morocco hosted an FBI delegation that also sought toexamine the country’s national security protocols for the AFCON.

Morocco has been deploying thousands of security services to ensure the stability and safety of the tournament and visitors, with over 3000 newly graduated police officers assigned to AFCON security tasks.

The North African kingdom is known for its comprehensive security approach, with international partners – including the UK – routinely hailing its leadership role in the sector.
