The good, the bad, and the ugly from the Bucs preseason finale

    The Good

Tez Johnson broke out, hauling in all eight of his targets for 58 yards and a 1‑yard TD, then finishing with a memorable flip celebration. Rookie RB Josh Williams energized special teams. He amassed 108 total yards on three kick returns (long of 42), while Kameron Johnson added a 57‑yard return, boosting the Bucs’ return game and field position significantly. Defensive tackle Elijah Roberts recorded his first sack, compounding on his impressive preseason, as he’s only gotten better and more consistent with each game.

    The Bad

    Quarterback backup competition remains unsettled.

Connor Bazelak played the second half, going 12 of 19 for 107 yards and a 1‑yard TD to Garrett Greene. GM Jason Licht noted the decision between Trask and Teddy Bridgewater as Mayfield’s backup remains open. Penalties also remain one of the biggest issues for the Bucs, wiping out not only touchdowns but also big plays off the board with sloppy execution and costly mistakes.

Something that must be reined in before week 1.

    The Ugly

Shilo Sanders was ejected in the second quarter after throwing a punch at Bills’ Zach Davidson. The undrafted rookie had also slipped earlier with a pass interference penalty—a major misstep that, combined with his play, had him released from the team.

Defensive struggles were evident against the Bills. The Bucs failed to record a single takeaway for the first time this preseason. Meanwhile, Buffalo’s backup QB Shane Buechele completed 25 of 30 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown.
