Rabat – Moroccan authorities in Tangier have detained a 34-year-old French citizen who is subject to an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities.

Police confirmed through Interpol’s database that the suspect had a Red Notice issued at the request of France’s National Central Bureau in Paris.

He is suspected of involvement in an organized criminal network and international drug trafficking using stolen vehicles.

Morocco’s Interpol Central Bureau in Rabat, part of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), informed French authorities of the arrest as part of the extradition process.

Officials stressed that the arrest demonstrates Morocco’s firm commitment to international security cooperation and its determination to hold accountable individuals involved in crimes that cross national borders.

The arrest forms part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international security cooperation and combat transnational crime.

This week, Spanish media reported that Moroccan intelligence helped Spain dismantle a large criminal network through “Operation Sombra Negra”.

Spanish security services dismantled the network of around 100 individuals, seizing 57,000 kilograms of cocaine, in collaboration with DGSN, Europol, and several other international agencies.

Government Delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernandez thanked Morocco for their crucial efforts, detailing that the network had an “extensive organizational structure” in Galicia, Portugal, as well as Girona, Cadiz, Almeria, and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in addition to Morocco.
