Whit Weeks will remain on the sideline for No. 3 LSU’s week three game against Florida. He was ejected for targeting on the Gators’ first offensive possession.

Weeks was going in for a tackle during a run by Jadan Baugh. Weeks was the second player to make contact, but after an official review, it was determined that he made contact with Baugh’s head by leading with the crown of his helmet.

Coming into the contest, Weeks led the team with 13 tackles. A preseason All-American, he is the undisputed leader on defense. He’ll remain on the sideline for the remainder of Saturday’s game, meaning he can still contribute as a vocal presence.

Following Weeks’ ejection, the LSU defense stepped up to force two incompletions by Gators’ quarterback DJ Lagway in Tiger territory.

Florida finished the possession with a 45-yard field goal. LSU punted on its first two possessions of the first quarter.

How did social media react to Whit Weeks’ ejection?

Some social media users took the opportunity to use the ruling on Weeks to make comments about the NCAA’s guidance for targeting.

Weeks displayed emotion on the sideline following the targeting call. Head coach Brian Kelly and teammates spoke with him as play got back underway in the first quarter.
