Rabat – Senegal has reiterated its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.

The country reiterated its position in a joint statement released today following sessions of the High Commission for Moroccan-Senegalese Cooperation, co-chaired by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

During the meeting, Senegal reaffirmed its full backing for Morocco’s autonomy plan in the Sahara, describing it as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to the regional dispute within the exclusive framework of the UN.

The Senegalese delegation also welcomed the historic adoption on October 31, 2025, of UN Security Council Resolution 2797.

The resolution formally recognizes Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan as the sole serious, credible, and sustainable basis for achieving a political solution to the Western Sahara dispute, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

This declaration shows the strengthening of diplomatic and cooperative ties between Morocco and Senegal, and reflects a shared commitment to regional stability and the resolution of long-standing territorial disputes through dialogue and international law.

During today’s joint meeting, prime ministers  Akhannouch and Sonko also reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to strengthening cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

They emphasized the shared values of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect, noting the contributions of Moroccan and Senegalese communities living in each other’s countries as a reflection of their enduring ties.

The session served as a platform to explore new avenues of collaboration in diplomacy, trade, culture, and development, and concluded with the adoption of a joint statement alongside the signing of multiple agreements, memorandums of understanding, and cooperation protocols.
