Samsung Unveils ‘Project Luna’ Concept at Milan Design Week

Tetouan – South Korea’s Samsung has unveiled a new experimental device, “Project Luna,” at the Milan Design Week 2026, offering a glimpse into how future home technology could combine robotics with smart assistants.

The concept device takes the form of a desktop unit with a circular head and a rotating display designed to follow the user’s position.

Demonstrations show the device adjusting its angle automatically to maintain interaction, moving both forward and backward depending on use.

During presentations at the event, Project Luna was placed in a kitchen setting, connected to a smartphone.

It played music through an interface resembling a turntable, responded to questions using both voice and on-screen text, and controlled lighting in the room.

In another scenario, the device displayed meal suggestions, while nearby screens showed related information such as calorie counts and calendar reminders, suggesting integration with artificial intelligence systems.

But the interface remains conceptual. And the demonstrations did not highlight a specific AI assistant such as Bixby or Google Gemini, indicating that the project is still focused on design direction rather than final functionality.

According to Mauro Porcini, Chief Design Officer at Samsung, the device represents a broader vision rather than a ready product.

He described it as an exploration of design language and user experience that could shape future devices.

The company has previously introduced early concepts, such as foldable phone prototypes, before bringing similar technologies to market.

Samsung’s track record in this category remains mixed. Earlier efforts, including the Galaxy Home smart speaker, were discontinued, while its home robot project Ballie has faced repeated delays.

Initially expected to launch by the end of 2025, Ballie was recently reclassified as an “active innovation platform,” signaling that it is no longer intended for immediate consumer release.

Project Luna, like many of Samsung’s experimental designs, is not expected to be commercialized in its current form.

Instead, it reflects the company’s ongoing effort to define how intelligent devices may fit into everyday living spaces in the future.
