Rabat – Morocco has been named “Best Destination” by the Portuguese travel network Bestravel, after the country welcomed more than 220,000 Portuguese tourists in 2025.

The Portuguese market has shown particularly dynamic growth. The number of Portuguese tourists Morocco received last year represents an increase of over 35% compared to 2023, and more than 50% above pre-pandemic levels.

This performance positions Morocco as one of the fastest-growing destinations for Portuguese travelers and shows the country’s growing appeal among European travelers.

Bestravel announced the news at the closing of its 21st Convention in Casablanca, reflecting the strong cooperation between Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) and Portuguese tourism professionals.

The award comes at a time of record growth for Moroccan tourism. Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million foreign visitors in 2025, marking a 14% increase compared to 2024.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan tourism sector is generating foreign currency revenues of MAD 138 billion, a 21% increase compared to 2024. “That’s 18 billion dirhams above the 2026 target, achieved one year earlier,” Minister of Tourism Fatima Zahra Ammor said.

These figures exceed the strategic goals set for the period and confirm the country’s strong recovery and expansion in the global tourism market.

Tourism professionals in Portugal point to several factors behind this success, including Morocco’s geographical proximity, its wide range of experiences, and its warm hospitality.

Visitors are drawn to imperial cities, rich cultural heritage, Atlantic beaches, desert landscapes, and world-renowned cuisine. Many also note cultural similarities between Moroccans and Portuguese, which make travelers feel especially welcome.
