Rabat – Egypt head coach Hosssam Hassan has joined a growing list of African football watchers, commentators, and stakeholders to have commended Morocco’s infrastructure for this year’s AFCON.

The coach said on the eve of the tournament’s kickoff that the infrastructure in Morocco is of a “very high standard,” adding that the Egyptian national team feels at home.

Hassan emphasized that the environment in the North African kingdom will contribute to an ideal sporting performance.

“It is rare to achieve unanimous approval from fans, the media, and analysts,” he said of his player choices for the Egyptian squad.

Hassan said he is particularly satisfied with his choices as the team has received broad popular support.

Hassan included several new players who will be part of the AFCON for the first time.

“The team needed fresh blood. I trust these players,” he said.

The largest tournament in Africa will kick off today at 8 pm, with host Morocco taking on Comoros. Ahead of the game, an opening ceremony will take place in Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium at 6:30 p.m.

Moroccan officials are promising fans one of the best African tournaments in the competition’s history.

Monday’s fixtures will include Egypt’s opener against Zimbabwe at 9 p.m,  Mali vs Zambia at 3 p.m., and South Africa vs Angola at 6 p.m.
