Rabat – Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has welcomed the ceasefire reached between the US and Iran.

In a statement today, the ministry also expressed Morocco’s support for the upcoming Pakistani-facilitated negotiations between the parties involved in the Middle East war.

“The Kingdom hopes that these negotiations will lead to lasting peace,” the statement added, hoping that the process strengthens stability in the region and takes into account the supreme interests of the impacted Gulf countries.

The ministry also recalled the importance of guaranteeing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international maritime law.

Iran and the US have agreed to a two-week ceasefire. The talks to finalize a peace deal will begin in Pakistan on Friday.

US President Donald Trump announced the truce on Thursday.

The decision comes with pledges for the resumption of operations in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.

Many other countries have welcomed the new developments, including China.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in a press briefing that China has welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced among the concerned parties..

The EU and UN also welcomed the truce.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on all parties to respect the ceasefire to “pave the way toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.”

EU Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen said she also welcomes the two-week ceasefire.

“It brings much-needed de-escalation,” the president explained.

EU Council president Antonio Costa also urges all parties to uphold the ceasefire terms to “achieve sustainable peace in the region.”

Gulf countries also reacted to the ceasefire, hoping it could lead to a permanent settlement.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the ceasefire too, describing it as an “initial step toward de-escalation.”

It also called for “building upon it urgently to prevent the expansion of tensions in the region.”

UAE said it ‘prevailed’ in the war that it sought to avoid.

Lebanon and Oman also welcomed the truce alongside Iraq, Egypt, Turkiye, and Sudan.
