Rabat – Morocco’s government has announced an emergency support program granting direct financial aid of up to MAD 6,000 ($600) per affected family following the severe floods that struck the northern and western regions of the country.

The initiative comes as part of royal instructions urging an extensive program and a broader relief effort designed to address the needs of disaster-stricken households and ensure rapid, efficient assistance.

In addition to the direct aid, households will also receive MAD 15,000 ($1,500) for the rehabilitation of damaged homes and small businesses, and MAD 140,000 ($14,000) for the reconstruction of homes that collapsed due to the floods.

“The government has mobilized all relevant departments to ensure the primary implementation of this program, which was developed based on an accurate assessment of the situation on the ground and the needs of the affected populations,” a statement from the Head of Government office said today.

The financial aid for fam the affected families will be disbursed starting next week.

The head of each concerned household must send an SMS to 1212, indicating their national electronic identity card number and date of birth. This will allow relevant services to verify the family’s situation and process the request as quickly as possible, the statement reads.

On Thursday, Morocco declared Larache, Sidi Kacem, Kenitra, and Sidi Slimane as disaster zones.

For aid dedicated to the rehabilitation of damaged homes and small businesses, and the assistance for reconstructing collapsed homes, authorities will carry out detailed on-site assessments of buildings in declared disaster zones.

Individuals may also submit requests to specialized commissions for review in accordance with the existing regulatory procedures, ensuring transparency and fairness.

The Head of Government office also recalled that support will be offered to affected farmers through the launch of a spring cropping program tailored to the specifics of the impacted regions, including oilseed, cereal, and forage crops.

Assistance will be offered for the purchase of seeds and fertilizers to help recover the season.

The government’s outlined program came a day after Morocco declared the recent weather disturbances a state of disaster.

King Mohammed VI also ordered the government to ensure extensive support with an estimated budget of MAD 3 billion to assist people affected by recent floods and evacuations.
