Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Senegalese counterpart Ousmane Sonko agreed during Wednesday’s phone call to proceed with the 15th Morocco-Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission session as scheduled for January 26-27 in Rabat.

The session will include a Morocco-Senegal Economic Forum on the sidelines. The call provided an opportunity to “salute the depth of exceptional and strategic relations linking Morocco and Senegal” under King Mohammed VI and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s leadership.

The communiqué noted “the solidity of relations between both countries, founded on solid bases covering strong human, religious and economic dimensions,” reflecting the comprehensive nature of bilateral cooperation between the two African nations.

Speaking Tuesday at the presidential palace in Dakar during a reception for the Lions of Teranga, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye said: “On behalf of the Senegalese people, I thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the brotherly people of Morocco for their hospitality, care, and attention toward our delegation and all teams involved.”

He added that Morocco’s hosting of AFCON reflected a spirit of fraternity, noting during the same ceremony that the tournament was meant to be “a celebration beyond football,” while praising Morocco’s national team for its “remarkable journey” throughout the competition.
