Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has warned of heavy snow, strong rainfall, and very cold weather in several parts of the country from Friday until next Tuesday. The warning was issued under an orange-level alert.

According to the weather office, heavy snowfall is expected in mountain areas starting from Friday evening. Snow of 35 to 80 centimeters may fall in Al Haouz, Azilal, and Chichaoua at elevations above 1,400 meters.

Other provinces, including Midelt, Beni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Khenifra, Sefrou, Boulemane, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, and Taza, may see 15 to 35 centimeters of snow above 1,300 meters.

Lighter snowfall is also expected in eastern and southeastern regions.

The forecast also includes heavy rain or strong showers, ranging from 20 to 40 millimeters, in many areas such as Rabat, Casablanca, Sale, Kenitra, Tangier, Meknes, Beni Mellal, Al Hoceima, and several nearby provinces from Friday evening to Saturday evening.

The weather service also warned of a cold wave from Sunday to Tuesday. Temperatures could drop to between -3 and -9 degrees Celsius in mountainous and inland areas, including Tinghir, Midelt, Ifrane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and Khénifra.

Authorities have called on citizens to stay cautious, especially in mountainous regions, and to follow safety instructions during this period of unstable weather.
