    Morocco Issues Orange Alert as Severe Weather Hits Several Provinces

    Mohammedia – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert as several provinces across the country are set to experience severe weather conditions from Saturday through Tuesday.

    According to the bulletin, heavy snowfall is expected in mountainous areas, starting from elevations of 1,300 meters.

    Snow accumulations ranging between 50 and 90 centimeters are forecast in the provinces of Al Haouz, Azilal, and Ouarzazate from Saturday morning until late Monday night.

    During the same period, snowfall of 30 to 50 centimeters is expected in Chichaoua, Midelt, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Ifrane, Khénifra, Sefrou, Boulemane, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taza, and Taroudant.

    Snowfall is also anticipated from 1,200 meters in several other provinces, including Driouch, Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Taourirt, El Hajeb, Chefchaouen, Chtouka Ait Bah, and Tiznit, over the same timeframe.

    In parallel, strong rainfall and thundery showers are expected in a number of coastal and central regions.

    Precipitation totals of 30 to 50 millimeters are forecast from Saturday night to Sunday midday in provinces such as Tangier-Assilah, Fahs-Anjra, Mdiq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Larache, Kenitra, Safi, Chtouka Ait Baha, and Tiznit.

    Rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 millimeters are also expected in Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, Mohammedia, El Jadida, Essaouira, Agadir Ida Outanane and several surrounding provinces.

    A cold wave is also forecast from Sunday through Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to between minus nine and minus three degrees Celsius in provinces including Tinghir, Midelt, Ifrane, Khénifra, and Boulemane, as well as parts of the High Atlas.

    Additionally, strong wind gusts reaching 75 to 85 kilometers per hour are expected on Saturday in Tiznit, Tata, and Taroudant, before extending on Sunday to several southern provinces, including Guelmim, Tan-Tan, Tarfay,and Es-Semara.
