Marrakech – Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch spoke at the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of GITEX Africa 2026, stating that Morocco has made digital transformation a key public policy priority.

He reaffirmed that the country’s digital investments have increased from MAD 11 million ($1.1 million USD) in 2021 to MAD 1.7 billion ($170 million USD) in 2024, marking a qualitative transformation. This strategic political choice enabled a shift from fragmented initiatives to a comprehensive and cohesive national strategy.

Morocco is also pursuing a strategic approach to ensure technological sovereignty, which has helped the country rank 14th globally in the 2025 AI Readiness Index. This effort includes initiatives such as JAZARI ROOT and the AI Made in Morocco program, both aimed at strengthening national expertise and technological independence.

Akhannouch further stressed that Morocco has attracted major investments in cloud services and research and development (R&D) centers, creating over 700 jobs and supporting ongoing technological advancement. He also noted that GITEX Africa was founded on a clear vision of providing Africa with a platform to tell its own story.

GITEX Africa positions itself as the continent’s largest tech matchmaking platform, offering curated introductions and one-on-one meetings between startups and investors. During the previous edition, agritech startup Deepleaf secured $50,000 in funding through the event’s competitions.
