Rabat– As part of ongoing efforts to deepen cultural and military cooperation between Morocco and Spain, a Spanish military delegation carried out a working visit to the North African country from November 10 to 14.

The visit opened with a working session at the Directorate of Military History, where officials presented the institution’s missions and achievements, particularly its role in preserving and documenting Morocco’s national historical memory. Discussions also explored new avenues for bilateral collaboration, including the “Sala de Banderas” project.

Led by Major General Marcos Llago Navarro, Director of Spain’s Institute of Military History and Culture, the delegation toured several historical sites and military museums. The program included stops at the Arms Museum in the northern and southern towers of Fez, the fortifications of Tangier, as well as the “Dar al-Baroud” and “Ibn Battouta” museums.

The visit affirms the shared commitment of Morocco and Spain to reinforce cooperation in the preservation of military history — a reflection of the longstanding historical and cultural ties linking the two neighboring countries.

Earlier this week, The Royal Moroccan Navy and the Spanish Navy carried out joint military exercises in Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea as part of NATO’s SeaGuardian operation.

According to EuropaSur, the drills aimed to enhance regional maritime security and address threats, including terrorism.

The Moroccan Tariq Ibn Ziyad frigate and the Spanish Reina Sofia frigate participated in the exercises, performing tactical maneuvers and simultaneous ship inspection operations.

These activities focused on strengthening military coordination and improving readiness in shared maritime zones.
