Rabat – Morocco has taken proactive steps to safeguard its economy amid rising war in the Middle East between the US, Iran and Israel.

Today, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch convened the first session of a dedicated ministerial committee in Rabat to examine the potential impact of the crisis on national markets and citizens’ purchasing power.

Representatives from key sectors presented detailed assessments of possible scenarios, outlining strategies to minimize economic disruption.

The committee will meet regularly and act swiftly whenever international developments threaten the local economy.

Officials confirmed that the government will maintain subsidies on butane gas, despite a 68% surge in global prices since the beginning of March. Electricity bills will remain stable as well, ensuring households avoid any sudden financial strain.

Transport professionals will receive exceptional, direct support between March 15 and April 15.

This aid targets operators in both passenger and goods transport, following more than 87,000 applications submitted through the official online platform.

Beneficiaries include public transport operators, rural shared services, freight carriers, school and tourist transport, towing services, taxis, and urban buses.

The government noted that assistance aims to guarantee steady market supply, maintain public transport services, and protect citizens from fare increases. Operators must adhere to current pricing for all services.

The session brought together senior officials, including the ministers of Interior; Economy and Finance; Equipment and Water; Agriculture; Trade and Industry; Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social Economy; and Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

Ministers delegate for Investment, Budget, and Parliamentary Relations also attended, alongside the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the Director-General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water.

The committee shows Morocco’s commitment to proactive economic management and citizen protection during times of global uncertainty, ensuring stability for both households and businesses.
