    Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an updated weather alert warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds affecting several regions of the country from Friday through Sunday.

    According to an orange-level alert, strong thundery rainfall ranging between 30 and 40 millimeters is expected in the provinces of Sefrou, Ouazzane, Tetouan, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, Khenifra, Al Hoceima, Taounate, Taza, Chefchaouen, and Larache. 

    These conditions are forecast to start from midday on Friday and last until 6 a.m. on Saturday, with a possibility of hail.

    More intense rainfall, measuring between 40 and 70 millimeters, is expected in Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Kenitra, Ouazzane, Tetouan, and Larache. This second wave is forecast from 12 p.m. on Saturday until 6 a.m. on Sunday, also with possible hail.

    Additional rainfall of 30 to 40 millimeters is expected in several other provinces, including Tangier-Assilah, M’diq-Fnideq, Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Berrechid, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Rabat, Salé, Skhirate-Témara, El Jadida, Meknes, Fez, Ifrane, Sefrou, and Taounate, from Saturday afternoon until early Sunday morning.

    The weather office also warned of strong winds, with speeds between 75 and 85 kilometers per hour, affecting many regions starting Friday at noon and lasting until 8 p.m. 

    These include Boulemane, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Tangier-Assilah, Ifrane, Oujda-Angad, Midelt, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tiznit, and Larache, among others.

    Strong winds are also expected to continue on Saturday, from early morning until late at night, across northern, eastern, and central regions. Coastal and urban areas such as Casablanca, Rabat, Salé, Mohammedia, El Jadida, and Nouaceur are expected to experience strong gusts from Saturday afternoon until late evening.
