Casablanca – Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni spent four days in New Delhi this week, taking part in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, a gathering that brought together governments and technology leaders to talk about where AI is headed and how it is being used on the ground.

The summit, held from February 16 to 20 and organized by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the IndiaAI Mission, drew more than 100 national delegations.

Unlike earlier global meetings that focused heavily on regulation, this one leaned into application. The emphasis was on impact, what AI is actually doing for public services, infrastructure, and development.

Seghrouchni attended a series of plenary sessions and working discussions throughout the event. She followed presentations on global AI trends and exchanges on how countries are integrating AI into administration and key economic sectors. The summit’s focus was more on implementation and less on theory.

Accompanied by Mohammed Maliki, Morocco’s ambassador to India, the minister held talks with several international officials and experts. The conversations centered on digital innovation and ways to strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies.

Her participation comes as Morocco continues to expand its presence in international discussions on digital transformation.

AI has become a recurring theme in global diplomacy, and the New Delhi summit offered a platform for countries of the Global South to exchange views on access, capacity building, and collaboration.

For Seghrouchni, the visit was both technical and diplomatic. It placed Morocco inside a broader conversation about how AI is shaping governance and economic policy.

It also reflected the country’s ongoing engagement in international cooperation, stressing partnership and knowledge sharing, particularly among developing nations.

The Summit’s diplomatic momentum continued in Rabat. Speaking at a press conference today, India’s Ambassador to Morocco, Sanjay Rana, described the meeting in New Delhi as the start of a new phase in Morocco-India cooperation on AI and digital technologies.

According to Maroc Diplomatique, he noted that Morocco approved the summit declaration and said it emphasized transparency, inclusive AI, and strengthened South-South collaboration.

“India and Morocco will establish a very solid partnership in artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies,” Rana told the press.

The ambassador also outlined concrete investment prospects. Tata Consultancy Services is considering establishing a development center in Morocco, he announced, while HCLTech, which opened a center in Morocco three years ago, has expanded from 200 to 500 Moroccan IT professionals.

He also added that several Indian firms are exploring opportunities in data centers and digital infrastructure, particularly given Morocco’s advances in green energy and governance reform.

Rana also confirmed that the 11th India-Africa ICT Expo will be held in Casablanca on March 27 and 28, bringing together Indian, Moroccan, and African companies specializing in digital technologies.
