Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert for heavy snowfall and strong rainfall across multiple provinces from Saturday to Sunday.

The meteorological service forecasts significant snow accumulation of 30-50 centimeters in the provinces of Midelt, Boulemane, Ouarzazate, and Tinghir. These snowfalls will occur above 1,700 meters in elevation from Saturday at 9:30 a.m. until Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Additional provinces, including Ifrane, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, and Taroudant, will experience moderate snow accumulation ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters during the same period. The Atlas Mountains will see abundant snowfall above 1,500 meters throughout Saturday.

Heavy rainfall, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, will affect several regions simultaneously. The provinces of Figuig, Boulemane, Errachidia, Zagora, Tinghir, Tata, and Midelt will receive 25-50 millimeters of precipitation from Saturday at 9:30 a.m. until Sunday at noon.

The northern coastal regions of Mdiq-Fnideq, Fahs-Anjra, Tanger-Assilah, Chefchaouen, and Tetouan will experience rainfall between 30-50 millimeters from Saturday at 8:00 p.m. until Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Saturday’s weather conditions will extend beyond precipitation patterns. Rain and thunderstorms will affect the Atlas, Southeast, Oriental, Rif, Mediterranean coast, and Tangier regions. Scattered rainfall is expected across the Souss and Saharan provinces.

Strong wind gusts will impact multiple areas, including the Mediterranean, Tangier region, Saiss, Middle Atlas, Oriental, and southern provinces. These conditions will contribute to rough sea states along Morocco’s coastlines.

Temperature variations will be pronounced across different regions. The Atlas Mountains will experience minimum temperatures between minus 4 and 3 degrees Celsius. The Saharan provinces, northwestern areas, and coastal regions will see minimums of 9-16 degrees Celsius, while other areas will range from 3-9 degrees Celsius.

Daytime temperatures will rise in the northern and central plains but decrease elsewhere across the kingdom. Sea conditions will remain challenging with agitated to rough waters in the Mediterranean, Gibraltar Strait, and north of Larache, while other coastal areas will experience rough to very rough conditions.
