Agadir – Morocco’s Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi met today in Rabat with Austria’s Prosecutor General Margit Wachberger and a high-level delegation, as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening judicial cooperation and exchanging expertise between the two countries.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Justice’s central headquarters, and served as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties and the shared ambition to elevate cooperation, particularly in the judicial field, in response to the rapid transformations shaping justice systems globally.

Talks focused on key reform projects underway in both countries. Ouahbi presented Morocco’s ongoing efforts to modernize its justice system, highlighting initiatives related to the digitalization of judicial services, improving efficiency, promoting good governance, and facilitating citizens’ access to justice. He also drew attention to Morocco’s efforts to enhance continuous training for judges and judicial administration staff.

Discussions further addressed issues of mutual interest, including strengthening cooperation in criminal justice, advancing mechanisms to combat organized and transnational crime, and expanding international judicial assistance. Both sides also explored opportunities to leverage modern technologies in the management of judicial services.

In a statement following the meeting, Ouahbi emphasized the significance of the visit.“This meeting reflects the strength of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria, and embodies our shared commitment to strengthening partnership in the judicial field through the exchange of expertise and successful experiences, contributing to the development of justice systems and addressing current challenges,” he stressed.

For her part, Wachberger highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration. “This visit represents an important opportunity to deepen dialogue with partners in the Kingdom of Morocco and to learn about the experiences accumulated in the justice sector,” she said. “It also reflects our shared commitment to enhancing judicial cooperation and exchanging best practices in the interest of justice in both countries.”

Both parties emphasized the need to maintain close coordination and reinforce institutional communication channels to ensure a regular exchange of expertise. They noted that such efforts would help improve the effectiveness of judicial systems while strengthening mutual trust and the rule of law.
