Rabat – Morocco and Spain are set to meet on December 3 and 4 in Madrid for their 13th High-Level Meeting preceded by the Morocco-Spain Economic Forum according to a statement from the Moroccan Prime Minister’s office.

Long-held ties between Spain and Morocco

The meeting marks the continued strengthening of ties between Morocco and Spain and represents a milestone in the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs also released a statement confirming the meeting in the “current context of excellent bilateral relations between Spain and Morocco.”

Bilateral ties between Morocco and Spain are at their strongest and the cabinet-level meetings will discuss further cooperation in multiple sectors including energy and transport, trade, political and economic cooperation, and migration management.

    Spain’s support of Moroccan autonomy

The meeting is especially significant in the context of UN Resolution 2797 and the Spanish government’s recognition of Morocco’s 2007 Autonomy Plan as the most serious, realistic and credible basis of resolving the Western Sahara dispute.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch are expected to head the meeting alongside business leaders from both countries.

The last summit between Morocco and Spain in 2023 discussed border management, security coordination, and economic exchanges.
