Rabat—Morocco and Colombia are locked in a tight battle after the first day of their Davis Cup playoff, with neither side able to pull ahead in the World Group I tie in Casablanca.

Reda Bennani gave the home side a strong start in today’s showdown at the historic USM Tennis Club, claiming a straight-sets victory over Adria Soriano Barrera, winning 7–6, 7–5 in a tightly contested opening match that energized the local crowd.

Colombia responded quickly in the second singles match. Taha Baadi was outplayed by Nicolás Mejía, whose experience helped him secure a 6–3, 6–2 win, leveling the tie at 1–1.

The first day’s results leave the tie balanced heading into a decisive Sunday, where the winner will earn the chance to advance into the prestigious World Group I tier of the international competition.

Casablanca’s hosting of this tie is a significant moment for Moroccan tennis, marking the city’s return to Davis Cup competition for the first time in more than two decades.

Sunday’s schedule will have the doubles match with Morocco’s Younes Lalami Laaroussi and Taha Baadi facing Colombia’s Nicolás Barrientos and Juan Sebastián Gómez, followed by additional singles rubbers that will determine which nation advances.

Morocco will be looking to keep this momentum going and lock in a historic win right in front of their home crowd.
