Rabat – Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), described the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco in 2025 as the most successful edition in the tournament’s history.
He pointed out the quality of football on display and the admiration it received from top coaches and legends worldwide.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Motsepe said: “We always succeed when our football is beautiful. I point out that Mbappe came here to Morocco, Zidane also, Kounde and other players. We are very proud that they came and supported the best players in Africa.”
He stressed that the competition was not only about the matches but also about the organization and facilities. “The level of football was wonderful, as were the infrastructure, stadiums, and services. On behalf of 54 federations, we express our gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to his government, and to the people of Morocco, as well as to the work done by our brother Fouzi Lekjaa. This makes ordinary people say that the hospitality and warmth of the Moroccan people are beautiful, and my Moroccan friends tell me this is part of their culture, something truly special.”
Motsepe’s remarks show how Morocco’s hosting combined sporting excellence with cultural pride.
The presence of global stars, the smooth organization, and the atmosphere in the stadiums all contributed to what CAF now considers the most successful AFCON ever.
