Rabat—Moroccan professional football clubs were major participants in the 2025 transfer market, spending approximately $6.96 million to bring in new talent while also generating around $18 million from player sales, leaving them with a massive $11.04 million surplus.
It’s a clear sign that Moroccan teams are finding their financial footing, proving they can invest in the squad while still turning a serious profit on the business side.
In total, Morocco saw 213 new incoming transfers and 170 outgoing transfers throughout 2025. Incoming transfers grew by 18.3%, outpacing the 13.3% rise in player sales. This trend really shows how the national league is becoming a major draw for foreign players, as well as how Moroccan talent continues to be in high demand across the global market.
The number of players signing with Moroccan clubs has been on a steady climb for five years straight now. We’ve seen it jump from just 104 signings in 2021 all the way to 213 in 2025, so doubling in no time. Player sales followed that same pattern, growing every single year to reach a high of 170 departures last year.
Moroccan clubs in the global context
On a global scale, FIFA reported a record 86,158 international transfers in 2025, covering men’s, women’s, and amateur football. For the first time ever, total club spending smashed the $13 billion mark, a 50% jump compared to 2024. In the men’s pro game alone, there were over 24,500 moves, the highest number ever recorded in history.
In Morocco at the club level, Wydad Casablanca spent €3.27 million on new signings and earned about €13.02 million from sales. AS FAR followed a similar path, spending about $915,000 on arrivals while bringing in $3.74 million from departures. Renaissance de Berkane invested €7.56 million in signings and sold players valued at €2.31 million.
There were some really interesting individual moves in 2025. AS FAR spent $180,000 to bring in Mohamed El Abd Nouh for instance. But the biggest headline by far was Hakim Ziyech, joining Wydad Casablanca on a free transfer. Bringing a veteran international of his caliber back home adds a massive level of experience and star power to the domestic league.
