Rabat – Wydad Casablanca fell short in their fourth group-stage match of the CAF Confederation Cup, losing 2-1 to Maniema Union at Stade du TP Mazembe.

The defeat ended Wydad’s three-match winning streak and tightened the race for qualification in Group B.

Maniema Union opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Namboka, who finished a well-worked move to give the home side the lead.

Wydad struggled to respond and found themselves in deeper trouble after halftime when goalkeeper El Mehdi Benabid scored an own goal in the 61st minute, doubling Maniema’s advantage.

Wydad reacted quickly. Just five minutes later, Hamza Hannouri converted a penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Moroccan side pushed forward in the final stages, but Maniema held firm and defended their lead until the final whistle.

Despite the loss, Wydad remains competitive in Group B. Both teams now sit on 9 points after four matches, with Wydad holding a slight edge on goal difference. Azam FC trails behind with 3 points, while Nairobi United remains winless.

The result sets up a tense finish to the group stage. Wydad will face Nairobi United next, while Maniema Union takes on Azam FC. With qualification still up for grabs, every point will matter in the final rounds.
