Rabat – Lionel Messi has reached another milestone in his legendary career, becoming the player with the most assists in football history.
The Argentine star recorded his 405th career assist during Inter Miami’s 5–1 win over New York City FC, a result that sent the club to its first-ever Major League Soccer final.
Messi did not score in the match but provided the decisive pass for the third goal, which was scored by teammate Leonardo Campana.
That assist pushed him past Hungarian great Ferenc Puskás, who had 404, and Brazilian icon Pelé, who registered 369.
The achievement adds to Messi’s long list of records. He is already football’s all-time top scorer at club and international level combined, with more than 800 career goals.
He also holds the record for most goals in a single season with 91 with Barcelona and Argentina in 2011-12, and has won the Ballon d’Or eight times, more than any other player.
