Rabat– King Abdullah II of Jordan has granted citizenship to Moroccan football coach Jamal Sellami, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the development of football in Jordan.
Speaking at a press conference after a match, Sellami said, “It is a great honor for me today. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince informed me that King Abdullah II personally requested that I be granted Jordanian citizenship.”
He added, “I did not come to achieve accomplishments and leave, but to build a team and a complete project. When I feel the project is complete, I will depart. In the future, we will work to develop the Jordanian domestic league so that it can produce young players capable of representing the national team at the highest level.”
Coach Sellami recently led the Jordan national team to the finals of the Arab Cup, where they faced Morocco in a hard-fought match that ended 3-2.
With this achievement, he etched his name in Jordanian football history, guiding “Al-Nashama” to the 2026 FIFA World Cup—hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—for the first time, in addition to reaching the Arab Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated by Morocco in an epic showdown at Lusail Stadium on Thursday.
Sellami’s accomplishments have cemented his reputation as a transformative figure in Jordanian football, with a focus on long-term development and nurturing young talent.
