Marrakech – The Indian Embassy in Morocco commemorated India’s 77th Republic Day on Monday with a distinguished reception in Rabat, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, Indian nationals, Moroccan alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program, journalists, and invited guests. The

Speaking on the occasion, India’s Ambassador to Morocco, Sanjay Rana, highlighted the historic importance of January 26, noting that while India gained independence in 1947, it was in 1950 that the country adopted its Constitution and became a democratic republic.

He expressed gratitude for the message of congratulations sent by King Mohammed VI to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, along with wishes of peace and prosperity to the Indian people.

Turning to bilateral relations, Rana noted that cooperation between the two countries has been gaining momentum across multiple sectors.

“Under the leadership of both countries, our relations are getting stronger, particularly in the economic field,” he stated, pointing to growing investment and trade flows.

He cited increased exchanges in pharmaceuticals, textiles, and agri-food, as well as the rising number of trade delegations visiting both countries.

Capacity building was highlighted as another pillar of cooperation. Ambassador Rana recalled that more than 900 Moroccan professionals, including journalists, have benefited from training programs in India under the ITEC framework.

He also referenced a cooperation agreement with Morocco’s National School of Administration (ENSA) for the training of civil servants.

Looking ahead, the ambassador expressed optimism about future collaboration in technology-driven sectors. “We see a very good future of cooperation in technologies, renewable energy, fertilizers, artificial intelligence, and digital public infrastructure,” he said.

He also revealed a lesser-known example of digital cooperation: India’s support in implementing Morocco’s national identity card system through MOSIP, a platform successfully used in India and adapted for Moroccan citizens.
